Airbus made two announcements at the air show this morning. The first one concerns the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding by new low cost airline GoAir for the acquisition of ten A320 Family aircraft plus ten options, a deal worth some 5.5 millions dollars. The airline based in Mumbai, India already operates two leased A320.
“The A320 Family is the preferred choice of all leading Indian operators. This is the beginning of a long term partnership between GO Air and Airbus,” said Mr Jeh Wadia, Managing Director of GoAir.
GoAir is the latest in line of a series of low cost Indian carriers to select the A320 Family for its fleet. India is experiencing a traffic growth of more than 20 per cent per annum.
The A320s will be deployed on GoAir’s domestic and international network that currently extends to 30 destinations in Indonesia and neighbouring south-east Asian nations.
The second announcement concerned low cost carrier Adam Air of Indonesia, which has selected the A320 Family for its fleet modernisation. The carrier confirmed its intention to build up a fleet of 30 aircraft over the next five years.
Adam Air has been in operation for two years and serves 35 destinations and three international routes in Indonesia and neighbouring countries. The new aircraft will be used to expend operations.
“We chose the A320 Family after a long and thorough analysis of competing products and we believe Airbus can give us benefits in our operations,” said Adam Air President Director, Mr. Adam Adhitya Suherman.
These latest A320 orders highlight the outstanding popularity that the A320 Family has enjoyed with both established and start up low-cost carriers in the Asia-Pacific region over the past few years as well as worldwide.
