The “Let’s shop Airbus” boutique at this year’s Farnborough Airshow has been busy all week, with both professional attendees and aviation enthusiasts purchasing merchandise ranging from aircraft scale models to wearing apparel.

Among the best-sellers is A380 merchandise branded with Airbus’ “Love at first flight” marketing campaign – led by inflatable versions of the 21st century flagship jetliner; while A380 models, key chains and drinking mugs also are popular.

The shop is giving away a 1:400th scale metal version of the A380 to a lucky winner every day, with eligibility for this drawing open to those who have made a purchase at the boutique.

In an encouraging sign for aviation’s next generation, there is high interest in “Future pilot” T-shirts for children – with a majority being purchased for girls, according to Daniela Decaix, the Sponsorship & Merchandising Manager at Airbus.

Becoming increasingly popular are A320 items with Sharklets – the distinctive wingtip devices now offered on Airbus’ single-aisle jetliner family to improve fuel consumption and enhance performance.  “Let’s shop Airbus” items available at Farnborough include an inflatable A320, complete with Sharklets and the shark-like smile that also is featured on Airbus’ testbed aircraft currently flying with these aerodynamic improvements.

Shoppers with a more mission-oriented interest have been purchasing items related to Airbus Military’s A400M multi-role airlifter.  Providing inspiration for such acquisitions is the presence of an A400M flight test aircraft in the Farnborough Airshow static display area.
