Advanced collision avoidance system mode approved for the A380
The European Aviation Safety Agency has approved a new Auto-Pilot/Flight-Director Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) mode for the A380, which could further enhance the safety of Airbus' 21s century flagship jetliner during a traffic avoidance situation. The new mode - which will become available for retrofit on other Airbus fly-by-wire aircraft in the coming years - simplifies the actions required by the pilot during a TCAS manoeuvre, minimising potential overreactions or inverse reactions during a critical time.
