Domingo Ureña-Raso

Domingo Ureňa-Raso was appointed Chairman and CEO of Airbus Military in February 2009. As such, he is in charge of the military branch of Airbus. Airbus Military products include the former CASA military transport aircraft CN235, C295, and C212, the A400M programme, as well as all military derivatives of Airbus aircraft which include the A330 MRTT. In addition, Mr. Ureña-Raso is CEO of Airbus Operations in Spain and the National Representative for EADS in Spain. In this position, Mr. Ureňa-Raso is a member of both the EADS and the Airbus Executive Committees. In October 2010 Mr. Ureña-Raso was nominated President of AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe and as from October 2011 continues in the management of the association as outgoing President.

Mr Ureňa-Raso started as an engineer in Construcciones Aeronauticas or CASA (which became EADS-CASA in 2000 and Airbus Military in 2009) in Spain in 1982, in the Cadiz plant, undertaking various assignments. He first started in Manufacturing Quality Engineering, then as F-18 and CN235 Programme Manager, and continued as Chief Tooling and Methods. Seven years later, Mr. Ureňa-Raso moved to Airbus in Toulouse where he took on different positions, mainly in procurement, being responsible for nacelles and propulsion systems.

In 1998, Mr. Ureña-Raso was appointed CEO and Member of the Board of Aircelle’s joint venture between Airbus and SNECMA, to develop, manufacture and maintain the nacelle systems for the A340-500/600, in cooperation with EADS-CASA. When the Airbus share was sold to SNECMA, he took over as President and CEO of the first privatised defence company in Poland, PZL Warszawa Okęcie, in 2002. EADS-CASA acquired PZL Warszawa Okęcie in 2001. In this position, his mission was to restructure the company and develop a strategic investment programme based on its core business to increase its competitiveness. In this position he reported directly to the CEO of EADS-CASA.

Upon the completion of this mission, Mr. Ureňa-Raso moved to Munich, Germany, to become Head of Procurement and Member of the Board for Eurofighter, a joint venture between EADS-Deutschland, EADS-CASA, BAE Systems and Alenia. Two years later, in Spring 2004, he joined the EADS Defence division and coordinated the implementation of the shared services process and the restructuring of the division until end 2005.

In 2006 he rejoined Airbus in Toulouse as Head of the new Airbus Industrial Strategy team, defining the scope of Airbus’ future core/non-core activities at aircraft level, the supply chain consolidation strategy and the Make-or-Buy policy for future programmes, such as the A350 XWB, and work-share definitions. Since January 2007, he was in charge of the vital Airbus “Power 8” turn around programme, reporting to Fabrice Brégier, COO of Airbus, and the “Future EADS” programme, reporting to Louis Gallois, President and CEO of EADS.

Domingo Ureňa-Raso was born in Camarena (Toledo), Spain in May 1958. He graduated from the Polytechnic University of Madrid with a degree in Technical Aeronautical Engineering in 1982 before obtaining a Master in Business Administration from the International Board of Social Sciences (UNESCO) sponsored by Construcciones Aeronauticas, S.A (CASA) in 1989. He obtained a diploma in Business Management by the ESSEC of Paris in 1998.

Mr. Ureňa-Raso enjoys spending his free time with his two children. He is also an enthusiastic tennis player and likes skiing.
