Persistent rainy weather throughout this week’s Paris Air Show did not dampen the event’s business environment for Airbus, which announced key wins across its entire product line for an impressive 466 new sales and commitments.
“The rain brought us some very good luck,” said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers.
One of the headline-making developments at the air show’s Le Bourget venue was the Memorandum of Understanding signed with Dublin, Ireland-based Doric Lease Corp for 20 A380s. Leahy noted this accord is another important endorsement for the A380 – particularly from a company that already has financed 18 of the very large airliners acquired through sale-leaseback arrangements.
Airbus’ newest family member – the A350 XWB – expanded its already-substantial success with new sales/commitments for 69 aircraft, consisting of 59 A350-900 versions and 10 A350-1000s.
Leading the new business were bookings or commitments for 371 A320 Family jetliners – paced by 283 for the A320neo (new engine option) versions, along with 88 for the A320ceo (current engine option).
Completing the activity was an order for six A330s, which adds to this jetliner’s overall sales total and confirms its continued competitiveness in the international marketplace.
