4 June 2013 Feature story

As the A350 XWB progresses toward its maiden flight and subsequent service entry, Airbus has created a new way to stay up-to-date on this next-generation airliner.

Airbus released the first edition of its “A350 XWB Shaping Efficiency” online magazine on 4th June, providing readers with an inside look at the people and technologies behind the new widebody jetliner.

The first issue features multimedia content, including: facts and figures on the jetliner; information about its development, assembly and flight test programme; profiles of the first flight three men in the cockpit; along with videos of A350 XWB flight simulator and ground test facilities. The magazine is customized for tablets “apps” as well as web viewing.

Airbus will continue to update the progress on its widebody jetliner with new editions of “A350 XWB Shaping Efficiency” throughout the testing and certification campaigns, up to delivery of the initial production aircraft.

The A350 XWB recently marked several major new milestones toward the first takeoff, including roll-out of the no. 1 aircraft to fly (MSN1) on 13 May in Toulouse, France, followed by the initial ground testing with its installed Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines.

This next-generation jetliner is scheduled to make its maiden flight during the summer.
