At this week’s Dubai Airshow, the Qatar Airways Cargo A330-200F freighter showed off its optimised cargo loading capabilities in style with a demonstration that utilised the latest from Mercedes-Benz’ AMG product line of luxury automobiles.
Much like the A330-200F that has proven itself in cargo operations around the globe, Mercedes-Benz vehicles are characterized by their performance, quality and reliability – making them a natural partnership for the Dubai Airshow cargo loading demonstration, which has generated significant interest at the biennial industry event.
According to Andreas Hermann, Airbus Vice President, Freighters - Customer Affairs, the example of automobiles as payload also reinforces the fact that while air freight only carries 1 per cent in volume of all goods transported around the world, it is about providing a secure and reliable service for high yield products, amounting to 30 per cent in value.
The A330-200F displayed in Dubai accommodates such Mercedes-Benz vehicles as the S63 AMG luxury sedan, G63 AMG sport utility vehicle and SLS AMG sport coupe in a single row or side-by-side configuration, offering up to 31 positions on its main and lower deck.
The Mercedes-Benz display also provided a natural tie-in with the high value offering of the Airbus Corporate Jetliners – as two of these aircraft joined the A330-200F on the Dubai Airshow’s aircraft exhibit line.
Since entering service in 2010, the A330-200F has demonstrated its attractiveness as a flexible, reliable and profitable freighter for the cargo operators, aircraft leasing companies and financial organisations that have ordered it around the globe. Middle East-based companies operating the A330-200F to date are Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways – both of which placed firm orders for additional aircraft during the Dubai Airshow.
