Airbus BLADE Makes First Flight WEB

Toulouse, September 26th, 2017 – Airbus’ A340 laminar-flow “BLADE” test demonstrator aircraft (A340-300 MSN001) has made its successful maiden flight for the EU-sponsored Clean Sky “Blade” project. The aircraft, dubbed “Flight Lab”, took off from the Tarbes aerodrome in southern France at local time 11:00, and after a series of successful tests it landed at Airbus’ facilities in Toulouse Blagnac. The overall flight time was 3hrs/38mins.

The A350-1000 Trent XWB-97 engine takes flight

The Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 – which is the new engine for Airbus’ A350-1000 – successfully completed its first flight test on 5 November 2015, aboard the company’s dedicated A380 “Flying-Test-Bed” aircraft. This video clip highlights key moments from the milestone evaluation, which began from Airbus’ facilities in Toulouse and lasted approximately four hours.

A320neo with Pratt & Whitney engines is certified

Airbus’ Pratt & Whitney Pure Power PW1100G-JM-equipped A320neo (new engine option) version received dual Type Certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on 24 November 2015. Relive the highlights of the rigorous flight test campaign, which accumulated over 1,070 flight test hours for three A320neo aircraft. The certification programme tested the aircraft’s airframe and systems well beyond design limits to ensure all air worthiness criteria were successfully met.

A350 XWB route proving: Hong Kong and Singapore

Airbus’ MSN005 developmental A350 XWB jetliner travelled to Asia on the second trip of its global route-proving tour to demonstrate the aircraft’s readiness for airline operations. In this phase, the jetliner flew from Toulouse, France to Hong Kong, and then operated multiple flights between Hong Kong and Singapore before returning to Toulouse. The Asian trip allowed Airbus to evaluate the A350 XWB’s performance in hot and humid conditions, as well as showcase the aircraft for Cathay Pacific Airways – which has 46 of these highly efficient jetliners on order.

A350 XWB route proving: Visiting 5 Southern Hemisphere airports

Airbus’ MSN005 developmental A350 XWB jetliner continues on the third trip of its global route-proving tour to demonstrate the aircraft’s readiness for airline operations. In this phase, the aircraft received warm welcomes in Johannesburg, South Africa; Sydney, Australia; Auckland, New Zealand; Santiago, Chile then flew to Sao Paulo, Brazil before returning to Toulouse, France.

A350 XWB route proving: The jetliner’s fourth trip

Airbus’ next-generation A350 XWB completed its four-trip route-proving campaign – which is designed to demonstrate the aircraft’s readiness for airline operations and is part of the final stage toward certification. On its fourth trip, this highly-efficient jetliner made stops in Doha, Qatar, Perth, Australia, Moscow, Russia and Helsinki, Finland to wrap up a campaign that amassed some 81,700 naut. mi. in approximately 180 flight hours. The A350 XWB performed as expected and on schedule at each destination, and is expected to achieve Type Certification in the third quarter of 2014.
