Airbus BLADE Makes First Flight WEB

Toulouse, September 26th, 2017 – Airbus’ A340 laminar-flow “BLADE” test demonstrator aircraft (A340-300 MSN001) has made its successful maiden flight for the EU-sponsored Clean Sky “Blade” project. The aircraft, dubbed “Flight Lab”, took off from the Tarbes aerodrome in southern France at local time 11:00, and after a series of successful tests it landed at Airbus’ facilities in Toulouse Blagnac. The overall flight time was 3hrs/38mins.

First "passenger" experience in the A350 XWB’s early long flight

An important step towards the A350's maturity at entry into service was performed on 2 June with the first of two Early Long Flights (ELFs) that carried Airbus employee passengers and airline cabin crew. Using the no. 2 A350 XWB development aircraft (MSN002), the flight provided a realistic evaluation in typical operating conditions, including passengers’ use of the in-flight entertainment system, food service and boarding. It was performed as a round-trip from Airbus’ Toulouse-Blagnac headquarters airport, covering some 6,800 km. while overflying France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway and the UK, before returning to Toulouse.

Airbus’ A350 XWB shines during its two Early Long Flights

The A350 XWB’s successful Early Long Flight evaluations – which were performed 2-3 June 2014 from Toulouse, France – are highlighted with comments from their passengers, consisting of Airbus employees selected in recognition of strong work performance. Operating the MSN002 developmental aircraft in typical airline conditions with cabin crews from Air France and Lufthansa (two of the A350 XWB’s current customers), the Early Long Flight campaign is part of Airbus’ commitment to ensuring the next-generation jetliner’s maturity at service entry – which is planned for the fourth quarter of 2014.

New members of the Airbus Group University Partner Programme

Airbus Group announced new members of the Airbus Group University Partner Programme at the 2016 Farnborough Airshow. Imperial College London, the Indian Institute of Science (Bangalore) and the KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm) are joining the Programme, which brings the total number of members to 16 universities based around the world.
