Fly Your Ideas : the final week.

The 2017 Airbus Fly Your Ideas final gathered five inspiring student teams who experienced a week onsite at the Airbus ProtoSpace facility to visualise, prototype and test their ideas using state-of-the-art equipment, before presenting them to a panel of industry, academic and Airbus experts. The winners of the 2017 edition were team DAELead from The University of Hong Kong, with their effective design for a Private Stowage Compartment (PSC) underneath passenger’s feet. The runners up were team Aquarius from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) for their concept which turns the A400M into a tool to stop rapid wildfire. This video highlights the students’ work during the final week, including the live presentations and Award Ceremony.

Youth development and Airbus Foundation's Flying Challenge

French students Oussama and Yann participated in the first edition of the Foundation’s Flying Challenge, where they met Airbus test pilot Hugues van der Stichel. A unique mentoring relationship was created from that moment on, which has both boosted the young adults’ academic motivation and their love for aeronautics, leading them to build a flight simulator.

Detecting volcanic ash clouds with AVOID

After the 2010 eruption of Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull volcano, an invisible cloud of ash raised numerous complications for air navigation and led many airlines to ground their fleet. This underscored the need for new technology allowing aircraft to detect and analyze volcanic ash clouds – the development of which is being advanced by the AVOID (Airborne Volcanic Object Imaging Detector) project, a partnership between Airbus, easyJet and Nicarnica Aviation. A350 XWB is 'Good to go' as it obtains its certification

The A350 XWB received its Type Certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) on 30th September 2014, which paves the way for the jetliner’s planned first customer delivery to Qatar Airways in the fourth quarter. The A350 XWB’s on-time certification process – which included initial evaluations with suppliers and on test rigs, a rigorous flight test campaign and the global route-proving tour – is a years-long process to ensure the aircraft’s readiness and maturity at service entry. Climate monitoring missions

Space has become an undisputed diagnostic tool for detecting climatic and environmental changes on a planetary scale. European Space Agency, European Commission and Eumetsat are the key actors for climate monitoring from space in Europe. Airbus Defence and Space has a long history of Earth observation & climate monitoring missions. 27 Airbus built satellites already launched have direct or indirect applications for climate change monitoring, with more than 200 years accumulated in orbit experience. Airbus Foundation Coordinates Relief Flight To Nepal

Toulouse, 29 April 2015 – The Airbus Foundation has coordinated with the French Government’s Crisis Centre the transport of 50 humanitarian staff, 21 tonnes of food and medical aid from Paris to Kathmandu onboard an Airbus A350 XWB test aircraft. These are destined to the victims of the terrible earthquake that shook the country on 25 April, the worst in more than 80 years, leaving thousands of people dead, injured or sleeping in the open.
