La toute première livraison d'un appareil produit par la chaîne d’assemblage d’Airbus aux Etats-Unis a eu lieu aujourd'hui, 25 avril, à Mobile, Alabama. L'équipe complète d'employés de la chaîne d'assemblage américaine a présenté son premier appareil finalisé, un Airbus A321, à JetBlue. Des cadres d'Airbus ainsi que des dirigeants de JetBlue, parmi lesquels le Président et CEO de la compagnie, Robin Hayes, et de nombreux dignitaires de la région du Golfe du Mexique, ont assisté à cette cérémonie de livraison. 
“Je suis extrêmement fier de prendre part à cette première livraison", a déclaré John Leahy, Chief Operating Officer – Customers d'Airbus. “Trois ans se sont écoulés entre la pose de la première pierre de cette usine et la livraison du tout premier A321 produit en Alabama : c'est une remarquable réalisation qui témoigne de l'excellente exécution de ce projet et de l'immense travail d'équipe réalisé ici à Mobile ainsi que dans l'ensemble d'Airbus. La chaîne d’assemblage d’Airbus aux Etats-Unis a su regrouper les meilleurs aspects présents sur toutes nos autres chaînes d'assemblage, où qu'elles soient dans le monde, et illustre l'étroite collaboration qui existe entre les employés d'Airbus et nos partenaires pour livrer d'excellents appareils à nos clients.”
Airbus a annoncé en 2012 sa décision d'investir 600 millions de dollars pour la construction d'une chaîne d'assemblage final destinée aux monocouloirs à Mobile, Alabama, et moins d'un an s'est écoulé avant le lancement de la construction. La cérémonie d'inauguration de l'usine a elle eu lieu en septembre 2015. L'A321 livré aujourd'hui à JetBlue a effectué son premier vol avec succès le 21 mars 2016. 
Outre l'A321 livré aujourd'hui à JetBlue, neuf autres appareils de la famille A320 sont actuellement en cours de production sur le site. Airbus prévoit la livraison de quatre appareils par mois produits par l'usine de Mobile d'ici la fin 2017. Les premières livraisons porteront sur des monocouloirs CEO (Current Engine Option), mais fin 2017 verra le début de la transition vers les tout premiers dérivés NEO (New Engine Option).  
En plus des centaines de nouveaux postes créés par Airbus dans le cadre de ce projet au bénéfice de la communauté locale, de nombreux fournisseurs ont ouvert de nouveaux sites de fabrication dans la région, contribuant ainsi à la création d'emplois supplémentaires et, dans un même temps, au renforcement de l'économie locale. Airbus est particulièrement fier que 87 pour cent de ses nouveaux employés (dont près d'un tiers constitué de vétérans de l'armée américaine) soient originaires de la région du Golfe du Mexique. 
Les avions Airbus sont aujourd'hui produits 24h/24 dans des usines implantées aux quatre coins du monde (Mobile, Alabama ; Hambourg, Allemagne ; Toulouse, France ; et Tianjin, Chine), illustrant l'adage “The Sun Never Sets on Airbus” (le soleil ne se couche jamais pour Airbus).
