Some 200 employees showed off their dance moves

Airbus’ recruiting campaign for new, young talent took on a whole new dimension today as more than 180 current employees performed the first-ever flashmob at the Paris Air Show.

Gathering in front of the A380 at Le Bourget Airport’s static display area, the volunteer Airbus staff danced to the hit song: “Higher” by American singer-songwriter Taio Cruz. This music was chosen for the refrain: “It’s taking me higher off the ground,” to underscore the varied and exciting career opportunities offered by Airbus employment.

The flashmob – which, in today’s social-media savvy world is increasingly used to bring people together – provided a truly unique way to attract attention to Airbus’ current large-scale hiring campaign.  Airbus plans to recruit more than 3,000 people in 2011, and the week-long Paris Air Show was used  to highlight job opportunities through a series of more traditional forums and workshops at Le Bourget Airport, which were organised by Airbus and its EADS parent company.

For the flashmob at Le Bourget, the idea began relatively modestly.  It initially involved Airbus employees who already had planned to be at the air show on its final Friday – a day that is open to both professional attendees and the public.  This group subsequently was enlarged with Airbus logistics team members who were coming to support the end-of-show activities.  It was further expanded with personnel who were attending a training conference, and more were added once knowledge of the flashmob spread by word-of-mouth within the company.
