International Year of Biodiversity kicks off with Airbus support

Airbus’ active involvement in the United Nations’ year-long environmental campaign will include a touring display of winning images from the “See the bigger picture” photo contest, as well as other activities that aim to raise awareness about the importance of Earth’s biodiversity.

Airbus will be an active participant in the International Year of Biodiversity, the United Nations’ global environmental campaign that was officially launched this week.

This year-long initiative will kick off with a touring exhibition of the winning images from last year's “See the bigger picture” photo competition, which was developed in a partnership between Airbus, National Geographic and the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). These photographs are currently on display outside the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation’s (UNESCO) Paris headquarters for the next two months.

During 2010, Airbus will partner with UNESCO and the CBD for several initiatives that aim to raise awareness on the importance of preserving the planet’s rich variety of life. These activities include the ongoing Green Wave programme – which is designed to educate the world’s youth about biodiversity – and the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

The International Year of Biodiversity was launched to promote the protection of biodiversity and encourage organisations, institutions, companies and individuals to take direct action to reduce its loss worldwide.
