Round 2 of the Airbus "Fly Your Ideas" challenge will begin on 1 January, with the 86 selected student teams working on proposals that offer potential new eco-efficient ideas for the aviation industry.
The "Fly Your Ideas" student challenge moves into its next phase on 1 January, with Airbus employees providing professional guidance as the 86 selected teams evolve their proposals - which are designed to help shape the future of aviation and develop new eco-efficient ideas for the air transport industry.
Launched by Airbus in October, the "Fly Your Ideas" competition generated a worldwide response that saw 225 teams from 130 universities complete Round 1 of the competition. The 86 teams chosen to enter Round 2 will pursue topics that include new materials; products and/or processes; as well as aircraft design, manufacturing, and operational performance.
For Round 2, the selected teams will work with designated Airbus Campus Contacts to develop project submissions that explore their proposal in more detail, and which include appropriate charts, diagrams and other relevant appendices. Teams also will be asked to submit a short video presentation to introduce themselves and to present their projects.
Participating in Round 2 are 36 European teams representing 26 different universities; 38 Asia/Pacific region teams from 17 universities; nine teams from eight universities in North and South America; and three teams from universities in the Middle East and Africa.
The "Fly Your Ideas" teams will advance through various competitive rounds, culminating with a live final at the Paris Air Show in June 2009. A top prize of €30,000 will be awarded to the team whose idea is judged as demonstrating the greatest potential for eco-efficiency improvement.
