A record-breaking Farnborough Airshow – with more than $75 billion worth of new orders and commitments at list prices – builds on the strong foundation of Airbus expertise in its home countries, including the UK.

Airbus directly employs more than 10,000 people in the UK, and with two industrial facilities – at Filton and Broughton – the country is a major contributor to all of the company’s aircraft.

At Broughton – which this year is marking its 75th anniversary in aircraft manufacturing – the company assembles wings for all Airbus aircraft, with A320 and A330 Family wings manufactured in the main East factory, A380 wings built in the West factory and the composite A350 XWB wings handled in the North factory at this 700-acre site.

The company’s Filton location also makes valuable contributions to Airbus, with the site’s engineers working in a range of disciplines – including wing integration, flight physics, structures and systems. Additionally, Filton assembles wings for the Airbus Defence and Space A400M military airlifter, and performs such Airbus support operations as procurement, finance and customer services.

In addition, Airbus plays a key role in the UK economy, providing work for more than 100,000 people through the extended supply chain and spending approximately £2.1 billion with more than 1,000 suppliers in-country – of which more than 45 per cent are small and medium enterprises.

Airbus provides major support for research and technology (R&T) initiatives in the UK as one of the nation’s largest aerospace R&T investors – contributing approximately £480 million in 2013.
