He succeeds Sean O’Keefe, who is electing to step down as Chairman and CEO of Airbus Group, Inc. to fully address ongoing medical issues due to injuries sustained in a 2010 aircraft accident in Alaska.

McArtor is a recognized leader in the U.S. aerospace and defence industry. Prior to joining Airbus in 2001, he held numerous senior positions in both industry and government, previously serving as: Head of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA); Founder and CEO of Legend Airlines; and a Senior Member of the Federal Express Company (FedEx) leadership team.

Furthermore, McArtor is a 1964 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, a decorated combat fighter pilot and a former member of the Air Force’s Thunderbirds flight demonstration team. Joining other well-known aerospace pioneers and leaders, he will be named one of the “Living Legends of Aviation” at an awards ceremony next week in California.

“For nearly 13 years Allan has been a key member of the Airbus Americas senior leadership team and has served as its Chairman during a period of significant growth and expansion. His previous government and private sector experience will be an invaluable asset to Airbus Group and, with his aviation-rich biography, Allan will give us tremendous lift and thrust in the U.S.,” said Airbus Group CEO Tom Enders.

O’Keefe will continue on special assignment with Airbus Group, Inc. to oversee and facilitate the compliant transition of the company’s continuing security agreement with the U.S. Department of Defense to the new U.S. Group structure.
