A new spares and repair facility for Airbus' Buxtehude subsidiary has opened in the United Arab Emirates at Dubai to provide enhanced customer support and service to the region's airlines. The Buxtehude subsidiary provides cabin electronic systems, and already has similar service centres in the U.S. (at Dallas, Texas) and China (at Beijing).
Airbus' Buxtehude subsidiary, which is responsible for cabin electronic systems, has opened a new spares and repairs facility in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The aim is to offer greater levels of customer support and enhance service to the constantly growing regional airlines. Airbus has already established other service centres in Dallas, USA and Beijing, China.
Starting operations in January this year, the Dubai service centre is a joint venture with the German company asscom aeronautic support services and its partner MSI Aircraft Maintenance. Under Airbus guidance MSI is responsible for cabin electronic systems repairs while asscom handles spare parts.
The repairs and spares facility is currently based in the Jebel Ali Free Zone, however in the fourth quarter of this year it will relocate to the new Airbus spares centre, which is being built on a 5,100 m2 site at the Dubai Airport Free Zone.
Whereas in the past regional airlines would send their cabin electronic systems for repair services to Buxtehude in Germany, today repairs can be done directly in Dubai. This service is available for items such as the CIDS (Cabin Intercommunication Data System) components as well as the SKYpower components. SKYpower is the passenger in-seat power supply system of the fully-owned Airbus subsidiary KID-Systeme GmbH, also located in Buxtehude. This new mode of operation has significantly reduced repair times. Some repairs that previously took one week can now be completed and returned to the customer in just one day when the repair is urgent.
All repair and testing equipment in Dubai is equivalent to the high Airbus standard and was sent directly from Buxtehude. The current repair space and team will double in size once they move to the new Airbus spares centre.
Along with repairs and spare parts, the Airbus service in Dubai offers customers aircraft on ground (AOG) support, technical training for engineering and maintenance crew, and customised cabin crew training.
