As the year draws to a close, the Airbus Corporate Foundation and Airbus employees performed two significant acts of kindness, using a pair of delivery flights with new aircraft for customers.
Donated teddy bears were airlifted to Latin America aboard the first of four A330-200F freighter jetliners for Tampa Cargo – AviancaTaca Holding’s cargo airline. Airbus employees from France, Germany and the UK gathered more than 1,000 of these stuffed toys for underprivileged children in Colombia, which were carried on the trans-Atlantic delivery flight from Airbus’ Toulouse, France industrial site.
After travelling from locations around Europe using Airbus' own logistics network to reach the Henri Ziegler delivery centre in Toulouse, the donations were sorted by employee volunteers before they were boxed and loaded onto the A330-200F.
“The response from employees has always been fantastic – I think we are all conscious that we are fortunate people,” said Michael Murphy from the Airbus Staff Council. “And as soon as any initiative is launched, employees are right behind it.”
In the other delivery flight, an effort involving the Airbus Corporate Foundation, the Aviation Sans Frontières non-profit humanitarian organisation and Toulouse University Hospital assembled electrocardiograph ECG monitors, respirators, and supplies for transportation to the Veterans General Hospital in Bangkok aboard the second A380 delivered to Thai Airways International (THAI) from Toulouse.
In addition to the medical material for Thailand, the Airbus Corporate Foundation made a 50,000 euro donation to the Thai Red Cross in support of its children's home in Bangkok.
