Flying the A380
Jacques Rosay
Vice President Chief Test Pilot
Jacques Rosay joined Airbus as a test pilot in 1995 and two years later became the project pilot for the A380, then known as the A3XX. In 2000 he was appointed vice president chief test pilot of Airbus’ flight test division. Prior to joining Airbus, he was chief test pilot at the French flight test centre in southern France, where he became project pilot for several military aircraft and tested almost 150 different models of military and civilian aircraft.
He also worked as a certification test pilot for the Joint Aviation Authorities on various aircraft including Airbus’ A320, A321, A330 and A340 while also working part-time as a pilot for Air France.
Jacques Rosay performed the maiden flights of the A318, A340-500 and the A380. He has some 10,000 flight hours to his credit, including 6,000 hours of flight tests.
Jacques Rosay was born in 1949 in Valréas, France.
Wolfgang Absmeier
Experimental Test Pilot A380
Wolfgang Absmeier joined Airbus in 1998 as a reception test pilot for the A319 and A321 at the Delivery Centre in Hamburg. Prior to joining Airbus he had spent ten years as an officer in the German Air Force and ten years with LTU International Airrways.
After graduating from the French test pilot school in 2000, he moved to Toulouse flight tests a year later as an experimental test pilot. Since then he has been working almost exclusively on the A380 programme.
Wolfgang Absmeier has accumulated in excess of 12,000 flight hours, more than 2000 of which have been spent carrying out Airbus flight tests. These include the first flight of the A318 CFM aircraft, the 340 flying Testbed with the RR Trent 900 engine as well as the first flight of the 380 MSN2 and the first landing in Finkenwerder.
Wolfgang Absmeier was born in 1959 in Rotthalmuenster near Munich, Germany.

Claude Lelaie
Senior Vice-President Flight Division
Claude Lelaie joined Airbus’ flight division as an engineering test pilot in charge of certification in 1988 and was appointed to his current position as senior vice president of the flight division in 1994.
Since joining Airbus, he has been closely involved in the flight testing and development of new aircraft and performed the first flight of the A319 and A340-600. Overall, he has accumulated more than 14,000 flight hours on about 200 aircraft types, including some 7,500 hours of flight tests.
His aviation experience also extends to having led an aerobatic flight team, Les Porthos, who performed flight displays in Europe and the US.
Claude Lelaie was born in Chateauroux, France in 1946.
Martin Scheuermann
Test pilot
Martin Scheuermann joined Airbus in 2001 as a test pilot. Prior to that, after training in the army and the navy, he qualified as a pilot with Lufthansa, moving in 1989 to Breguet-Atlantic.
In 1993 he qualified as a test pilot at the USAF Test Pilot School in California. From 1994 to 1998, he worked a test pilot on transport aircraft and in particular on ATL and Transall. Before coming to Airbus, he was employed as an instructor in the French test pilot school in Istres, southern France.
He was born in 1961 in Seligenstadt, Germany.

Peter Chandler
Experimental test pilot
Peter Chandler has been an experimental test pilot with Airbus since joining the company in the summer of 2000. Prior to this appointment he worked for Virgin Atlantic Airways where he was a long-haul captain on Airbus A340s and also a project pilot representing the airline in various industry working groups, and in the early development of both the A340-600 and A380.
Peter Chandler flies all Airbus types from the A300 to the A380 and is the Deputy Project Pilot for the A380. He has been heavily involved in all aspects of the A380’s cockpit and systems design and development, and since April 2005 has regularly carried out flight tests in the first test aircraft.
Peter Chandler was born in 1954 in England.
Erkhart Hausser
Chief Pilot Hamburg
Erkhart Hausser has been in the role of chief pilot in Hamburg since April 2006, having joined Airbus in Germany as a test pilot in 2001. Prior to joining the company, he worked at the National Test Pilot School in California and for LTU International Airways as a captain on Lockheed L-1011 TriStars, Airbus A320s and A330s.
Erkhart Hausser began his career as a pilot with Contactair flying Beech, Jetstream 31 and Learjet aircraft and he has also studied aeronautical and electrical engineering. He has accumulated 16000 flight hours.
Erkhart Hausser was born in 1960 in Germany.
