Reinforcing Airbus’ widebody leadership: A330neo is a winner at the Farnborough Airshow

Wrapping up its best performance ever at a biennial Farnborough Airshow, Airbus logged new business for 496 aircraft – including 133 widebody jetliners with agreements involving the newly-launched A330neo and in-production A330ceo versions, along with the soon-to-enter-service A350 XWB.

The A330neo (new engine option) was at the centre of attention throughout the week-long industry event, with Airbus’ go-ahead for the launch of this new engine option aircraft followed by rapid-paced announcements of commitments for 121 aircraft.  

These bookings involved both versions being offered: the A330-800neo, which has the same fuselage length as Airbus’ in-production A330-200ceo (current engine option); and the A330-900neo, which uses the A330-300ceo’s fuselage length.

The Airbus’ ACJ319 being exhibited at Jet Expo[1] has a wider and taller cabin than any other business jet, giving potential customers the ability to take an office and apartment with them when they fly – as well as more of their colleagues, family and friends.

It is operated by MJet, offered for VVIP charter, and seats 19 passengers in a cabin with that includes lounge areas plus a bedroom with ensuite bathroom. This is the first time that Airbus has exhibited the MJet Airbus ACJ319 at a show.

Aegean Airlines adds two additional aircraft to its previous A320ceo order

Aegean Airlines, Greece’s largest airline, has signed a firm contract with Airbus for two additional A320ceo aircraft, adding to a previous order for five A320s aircraft placed in September 2007. 

All aircraft will be equipped with Airbus “Sharklet” fuel saving wing tip devices and will be powered by IAE V2500 engines. The aircraft will also be the first A320s in Aegean’s fleet to feature the enhanced take-off weight capability of up to 78 tonnes, thus enabling the carrier to expand its route network with even longer range operations.

The world’s newest Widebody airliner, the Airbus A350-900, has successfully completed a series of Route Proving trials, receiving an enthusiastic welcome at each of the 14 cities it has visited over the past three weeks. Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC) in Taiwan has become a new tier-one supplier for Airbus. Under the agreement, which followed a thorough evaluation process, AIDC will produce composite panels for A320 Family aircraft aft belly fairings. Aircraft and honey: Bees are playing a key role in “monitoring” Airbus’ environmental footprint

To help analyze the environmental footprint of its operations at Finkenwerder Airport in Hamburg, Germany, Airbus also produces more than 600 jars of honey per year from beehives on site.

As part of the company’s bio-monitoring efforts, honey from these bees – which collect the pollen and nectar from hundreds of thousands of plants across an approximately 12-square-kilometre area – can provide key data on the quality of surrounding soil, air and water. For example, any metal or chemical deposits in flowers from the surrounding areas would also be detected in the honey.

Airbus Customer Services’ Malaysian-based subsidiary – Airbus Customer Services Sbn Bnd – has commenced operations, providing support to customers in close proximity to this fast-growing South East Asia region. Co-located with Sepang Aircraft Engineering near Kuala Lumpur International Airport, the new Malaysian center will offer services that cover the complete range of Airbus’ modern, efficient jetliner product line – with a focus on the A380 and A350 XWB.
