Already “at home in the sky” – the A320neo continues Airbus’ single-aisle jetliner leadership

Maintaining its reputation for non-stop innovation, Airbus marked a new aviation milestone with today’s successful first flight of the A320neo (new engine option) jetliner – the latest evolution in the company’s highly efficient and popular single-aisle aircraft product line.

With the global aerospace industry focused on Toulouse, France, the initial NEO aircraft – powered by Pratt & Whitney’s PurePower PW1100G-JM engine – took off at noon local time from Runway 32L at Toulouse-Blagnac Airport, ascending through clear skies. 

The jetliner performed an approximately two-and-a-half-hour evaluation before landing back in Toulouse to the cheers and applause of the crowd gathered on-site, which included top executives from Airbus, its Airbus Group parent company and NEO programme partners.

Airbus readies A350 XWB for first customer Qatar Airways

The first A350 XWB for Qatar Airways is progressing towards delivery before year end. The aircraft equipped with Rolls Royce Trent XWB engines rolled out of the Airbus factory in Toulouse fully painted, prominently bearing Qatar Airways’ livery.

Following the recent EASA Type Certification, the Qatar Airways A350-900 is now entering into its final stage of production during which Airbus and the airline teams are actively working together in order to ensure a seamless hand-over process. Scheduled for delivery in mid-2015, the aircraft will see Vietnam Airlines become the first Asian airline to fly the A350 XWB and the second operator in the world of the all-new, fuel-efficient widebody.

Vietnam Airlines has a total of 10 A350 XWB on order. The aircraft will be operated on the carrier’s premium long range services.

Airbus A350-900 receives EASA Type Certification

The world’s latest generation commercial airliner, the A350-900, has received Type Certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) on 30th September 2014. The certified aircraft is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification will follow shortly.

The EASA A350-900 Type Certificate was signed by EASA’s Executive Director, Patrick Ky. The document was handed over to Airbus’ Executive Vice President Engineering, Charles Champion and Airbus’ A350 XWB Chief Engineer, Gordon McConnell.

For the first time, Etihad Airways unveiled its all-new livery design on its first Airbus A380 at a special ceremony at the Airbus site in Hamburg‎, Germany.

The first A320neo to fly has landed back at Toulouse-Blagnac Airport France at 02:22 pm local time after successfully completing its first flight which lasted around two and a half hours. The aircraft – carrying the registration F-WNEO – was flown by Airbus Experimental Test Pilots Philippe Pellerin and Etienne Miche de Malleray. Accompanying them in the cockpit was Test-Flight Engineer Jean-Paul Lambert. Monitoring the progress of the flight profile were the Flight-Test Engineers Manfred Birnfeld and Sandra Bour-Schaeffer.

Airbus’ newest customer support centre begins operations in Malaysia

Airbus Customer Services’ Malaysian-based subsidiary – Airbus Customer Services Sbn Bnd – has commenced operations, providing support to customers in close proximity to this fast-growing South East Asia region. Co-located with Sepang Aircraft Engineering near Kuala Lumpur International Airport, the new Malaysian center will offer services that cover the complete range of Airbus’ modern, efficient jetliner product line – with a focus on the A380 and A350 XWB.
