With its maiden flight on September 13, 1994, the popular Beluga cargo aircraft, affectionately named after the white whale because of its remarkable shape, is celebrating this week twenty years of transporting Airbus component parts between Airbus’ European manufacturing sites.

VivaAerobus, the low cost carrier serving Mexico, has chosen “Training By Airbus” to provide simulator training and courses for pilots, maintenance personnel, flight operations engineers and cabin crews in Miami and Monterrey, Mexico. The 10-year agreement includes more than 25,000 flight training hours for approximately 750 pilots. VivaAerobus, which is in the process of converting to an all-Airbus operator, has ordered a total of 52 A320 Family aircraft.

Airbus has established a new subsidiary in Thailand for the production of flight operations data for use by airlines worldwide. The centre, to be named Airbus Flight Operations Services, will produce electronic versions of the standard flight operations manuals, improving the growing use of the Electronic Flight Bag for all Airbus aircraft types. The centre will offer several additional services, such as data customisation services for individual airlines where required.

Airbus Customer Services’ Malaysian-based subsidiary – Airbus Customer Services Sbn Bnd – has commenced operations, providing support to customers in close proximity to this fast-growing South East Asia region. Co-located with Sepang Aircraft Engineering near Kuala Lumpur International Airport, the new Malaysian center will offer services that cover the complete range of Airbus’ modern, efficient jetliner product line – with a focus on the A380 and A350 XWB.
