The CDC is a unique showroom, located in close proximity to cabin engineering and A350 XWB production activities in Hamburg. The impressive building previously housed Transall aircraft assembly, and it retains the atmosphere of an industrial loft. “It is a highly attractive one-stop shop, designed specifically to support A350 XWB customisation,” says Jörg Schuler, head of centre of competence, Cabin and Cargo. The CDC combines lessons learned from previous programmes and showcases the variety of cabin products offered.

Qingdao Airlines, a Chinese start-up airline, has taken delivery of the company’s first ever aircraft, an Airbus A320 aircraft equipped with Sharklets, on lease from Hong Kong-based China Aircraft Leasing Company (CALC). The airline will become a new operator of the world’s best-selling single-aisle aircraft and make its first commercial flight from its home base of Qingdao in Eastern China to Chengdu, capital city of Sichuan Province in Southwestern China, later in April.

The new Airbus A350 XWB has made its first ever landing on British soil, visiting Cotswold Airport in Gloucestershire as part of routine certification tests.

The aircraft, MSN3, was flown by London-born experimental test pilot, Frank Chapman, and is one of the four A350 test aircraft currently flying and undergoing rigorous testing in preparation for the A350’s certification and entry into service later this year. In total the A350 XWB flight test campaign will accumulate around 2,500 flight hours with the fleet of five aircraft.

Aircraft Interiors Expo 2014, Hamburg – At the 2014 Airbus Cabin Supplier Support Rating awards, Airbus recognised the cabin Buyer-Furnished-Equipment (BFE) suppliers who achieved outstanding levels of customer satisfaction throughout 2013. The suppliers were identified through the Airbus process which captured in-service feedback from over 111 Airbus Customers representing 73 percent of the operators worldwide, operating over 90 percent of the Airbus fleet and covering all aircraft families. Sixty-eight suppliers were measured during 2013.

Aircraft Interiors Expo 2014, Hamburg – Airbus has further enriched its Economy and Premium Economy Seating offering in the A350 XWB Catalogue*, working in partnership with the manufacturers Recaro and Sogerma. These latest additions now mean even more choice for future operators of the all-new A350 XWB family of airliners.

Recaro Aircraft Seating will introduce its new generation, modular seat model, the CL3710, in the A350 XWB Catalogue. The CL3710 combines maximum living space and comfort with an exceptionally light weight.

Flight test A350 XWB opens its doors

Since its maiden flight on 26 February 2014, the aircraft has completed 76 flight hours over a total of 12 flights. It is the first of two aircraft in the A350 XWB’s development fleet to be fitted with a cabin – which is equipped with a medium flight test installation to be used for testing all cabin-related systems. 

Intensive cabin flight and ground tests already have been performed on the aircraft since its arrival in Hamburg during mid-March. MSN002 also will be used for a partial evacuation test on the ground, as well as hot and cold cabin evaluations.

Concorde MSN1 arrives at its new home

One of the first Concorde jetliners built at Toulouse, France has made its final “voyage” with the aircraft’s ground transfer to the Airbus-supported Aeroscopia museum site at Toulouse-Blagnac Airport.  Designated MSN1, this Concorde made its last flight in April 1985, returning to Toulouse after a career that included a full range of test and development activity.  The Aeroscopia museum where Concorde MSN1 will be permanently displayed has received funding from Airbus, and its collection also will include one of the initial A300s – the cornerstone widebody jetliner in Airbus’...
