Final assembly of the initial A320neo flight test aircraft began this week in Toulouse, France. According to Klaus Roewe, Airbus' Senior Vice President A320neo Family, the NEO jetliner’s industrial maturity is high – aided by its 95 per cent airframe commonality with the A320ceo. 

To meet the unprecedented demand for NEO – the first delivery of which is planned in 2015 – as well as the continuing need for CEO aircraft, Airbus is increasing monthly production rates from 42 – already an all-time high for a commercial jetliner – to 46.

Airbus has unveiled the A350 XWB’s development cabin interior installed on board flight-test aircraft ‘MSN002’ at the Airbus site in Hamburg. MSN002, which made its first flight on 26th February 2014, is the first of two test aircraft fitted with a passenger interior and is part of the growing A350 XWB development fleet. Airbus Chooses MAAS Aviation for Aircraft Paint Operation at Mobile Assembly Line

Construction of $13 million facility to begin second quarter 2014

Airbus has awarded MAAS Aviation the contract for the Paint Shop operation for the A320 Family Assembly Line in Mobile, Alabama. MAAS will be responsible for painting aircraft prior to their delivery to Airbus’ customers. 

MAAS’ paint hangar will be located on the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley within the Airbus Assembly Line campus. Construction of the $13 million facility is scheduled to begin second quarter 2014 and will be complete by mid-2015. Jesco, Inc. will lead the construction of the paint hangar. Avianca, an all-Airbus operator, will equip 21 of its A320 Family aircraft with the Airbus Runway Overrun Prevention System (ROPS). This on-board cockpit technology increases pilots’ situational awareness during landing, reduces exposure to runway excursion risk, and, if necessary, provides active protection. Flight test A350 XWB opens its doors

As part of the A350 XWB Customer Definition Centre opening event in Hamburg, Airbus unveiled A350 XWB’s first development cabin interior on board flight test aircraft MSN002. 

Since its maiden flight on 26 February 2014, the aircraft has completed 76 flight hours over a total of 12 flights. It is the first of two aircraft in the A350 XWB’s development fleet to be fitted with a cabin. Its test cabin is equipped with a medium flight test installation, to be used for testing all cabin-related systems.

Concorde MSN1 arrives at its new home
