South African Airways takes delivery of its first A330-300 aircraft

South African Airways (SAA), has taken delivery of its first of five new leased A330-300 widebody jetliners, becoming Airbus’s first Southern African operator of the aircraft type.

Aircalin, the Noumea based carrier in the French territory of New Caledonia has signed an agreement (MoU) for two A320neo single-aisle and two A330-900 wide-body aircraft. The agreement was finalised and signed at a ceremony in the capital Noumea attended by airline officials and Airbus executives.

The A320neo engine choice will be made at a later date as will the cabin configuration of both aircraft types. Today’s report from the World Trade Organization (WTO) Panel (DS487) confirms that the United States has ignored international trade rules by permitting illegal subsidies to Boeing, this time targeted at the 777X aircraft.  The Panel found Washington State’s multi-billion dollar subsidy regime for Boeing to include “prohibited” subsidies, which in the Panel’s words belong to “a special category… which Members have deemed to create such trade distortions that they are proscribed,” because they are “specifically designed to affect trade.”

Airbus is evaluating a new standard high-bandwidth architecture that will provide faster and more wide-reaching connectivity services on-board its modern, market-leading jetliners.

Thailand student innovators experience the future of “greener” aviation at Airbus headquarters

Winners of a Thailand student competition that addresses environmental aspects of air transport were welcomed to Toulouse, France for briefings on Airbus technical innovations, along with visits to the A350 XWB and A380 final assembly lines, and a close-up look at the passenger cabin mock-up centre. 

Thai Airways International (THAI) is the sponsor of this contest, called “TG Travel Green Innovation,” with the nine winners from its second competition provided the opportunity to visit Airbus’ Toulouse, France headquarters during November.
