Airlines and pilots will both benefit from the Common Type Rating pilot training on the A350 XWB and A330 jetliners, further extending Airbus’ concept of flight operational commonality between its fly-by-wire aircraft families.

The new regulatory approval means that pilots who are qualified and current on the A330 can already commence their preparations to take the A350 XWB’s controls by undergoing “differences training” only.

According to the latest Airbus Global Market Forecast, air traffic involving Spain will double by 2033 compared to 2013. This includes domestic as well as international travel to and from the country. The final assembly of Airbus’ first A330 with the new 242 tonne maximum take-off-weight (MTOW) capability is underway at the A330 Final Assembly Line in Toulouse, France. The aircraft is currently completing its structural assembly before the cabin integration phase and will be used for certification flight trials. VISTARA, the new carrier based in New Delhi, has signed long term Flight Hour Services Tailored Support Package (FHS-TSP) contracts with Airbus starting this year with the entry into service of its 20 A320 leased fleet.

The FHS-TSP contract provides an integrated and guaranteed service ranging from Components supply and repair to full airframe maintenance and engineering service. Airbus Customer Services’ Malaysian-based subsidiary – Airbus Customer Services Sbn Bnd – has commenced operations, providing support to customers in close proximity to this fast-growing South East Asia region. Co-located with Sepang Aircraft Engineering near Kuala Lumpur International Airport, the new Malaysian center will offer services that cover the complete range of Airbus’ modern, efficient jetliner product line – with a focus on the A380 and A350 XWB.
