Airbus Fly Your Ideas is a worldwide competition that challenges students from all disciplines to develop new ideas and innovate with Airbus for the future of aviation. Students involved in the competition have the opportunity to work with Airbus mentors and experts for a few months up until the final. The five selected finalist teams then continue working with Airbus employees and experience a week onsite at the Airbus ProtoSpace facility to prototype and test their ideas before presenting them live in front of an industry jury. This video highlights the relationship between two finalist teams, DAELead and Aquarius, and their mentors during the competition.
With its 2017 Fly Your Ideas competition, Airbus challenged students worldwide to submit solutions to genuine industry challenges that either are innovations for “now” or innovations for the “future.” With 5,499 entries received from students in 89 countries around the world, the 2017 competition attracted record interest.
Team DAELead of the University of Hong Kong won the 2017 competition – and its €30,000 prize – with their design of a private stowage compartment situated underneath a passenger's feet, a simple but effective solution for an improved passenger experience.
The runners up, team Aquarius from Australia’s Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, were awarded €15,000 for their radical concept that turns a commercial airliner into a tool to stop rapid wildfire.
