REACH
A key environmental policy
Airbus is fully involved in the requirements deployment for REACH, which is the European Union’s regulatory framework for improving human health and the environment through closer regulation of chemical use.
Enacted in 2007, the REACH regulation works toward its goals through several methods – including stimulating innovation with the promotion of research & development, and improving transparency within the supply-chain regarding chemical substances’ content.
In addition, REACH is progressively removing the most hazardous substances from the market, and making industry more responsible for managing the risks of chemicals and informing their customers and consumers.
Meeting the requirements
A specific REACH compliance project has been established, with a dedicated team and budget to ensure all REACH requirements are managed within Airbus in a recurrent mode.
Additionally, a new organization called the Multi-Programme Substance Projects was launched during 2011 to coordinate all hazardous substance activities for Airbus aircraft programmes.
