I joined Programme Planning as a DEG in September 2009 and initially worked as part of the Central Planning team preparing site level Key Performance Indicators for senior management reviews whilst running a Continuous Improvement Project to develop a standardised weekly reporting process. One of the key benefits of the DEG Programme is the comprehensive series of training courses, which were an excellent introduction to the company, as they gave me the opportunity to learn about Airbus aircraft and manufacturing processes in addition to developing my soft skills.
After my initial target area placement I completed three business placements working in A350 Operations Support, Hawker Procurement Quality and A380 ALPS. These placements gave me the opportunity to experience different functions, work offsite at suppliers' premises and work in new, series and mature programmes whilst getting a better understanding of Programme Planning's role within the business.
The Programme Planning department is split into a number of teams supporting each of our product families in addition to a Central Team who co-ordinate inputs at a site level, as well as a New Products Team. I finished my time on the DEG Programme in the New Products Team and focusing primarily on setting up the A350 reporting processes, supporting Operations as a Tactical Planner and gaining the skills and experience required to progress to a Planning Team Leader role.
I think that the Airbus DEG Programme offers an excellent opportunity for graduates who want to work in a transnational manufacturing organisation and Programme Planning offers the opportunity to interface with a number of business functions at all levels of the business and develop invaluable skills for a future career within Airbus.
