Paris Airshow opens for business

The 48th International Paris Air Show Le Bourget (Salon International de l'Aéronautique et de l'Espace, Paris-Le Bourget) was officially opened to trade visitors on 15 June by French Prime Minister Francois Fillon, who took the opportunity to tour exhibitors’ stands on a wet Paris morning.

Mr Fillon was accompanied by EADS CEO Louis Gallois as he visited the Airbus stand, where he spent time discussing the A350 XWB scale model on display with Airbus president and CEO Tom Enders.

This year the show, which opens to the general public on 19 June and runs until Sunday, is celebrating its centenary, with 30 historic aircraft on display including a Bleriot XI, one of the planes showcased at the very first exhibition in 1909.

The first air show was held at the Grand Palais in central Paris, before moving out to Le Bourget airfield in 1953 and becoming a biennial event, alternating with the Farnborough Air Show in the UK.
