Press release
13 November 2008
Airbus Americas has announced that Tom Anderson will be joining its senior management team, based at the company's Herndon, Virginia headquarters. Effective November 24, Anderson will be the new Senior Vice President of Airbus North America (ANA) Customer Services, Inc. Coming to Airbus from Virgin America, Anderson replaces Francois Mourareau, who is retiring following a nearly-40 year career with the Airbus organization.
In his position at Airbus, Anderson will oversee a number of staff and facilities in the U.S. and Canada, including: Airbus Training Center in Miami, Florida; Airbus Spares Center in Ashburn, Virginia; the in-house staff of ANA's Customer Support and Supplier Management Support in Herndon; and a network of some 40 field service representatives based with customer airlines around the continent. This team of some 250 people helps support the extensive network of airline customers in the U.S. and Canada.
"Tom will be taking on an organization that has grown tremendously in stature and reputation for quality in recent years under Francois' leadership," said Barry Eccleston, President and CEO of Airbus Americas. "We currently have some 11-hundred Airbus aircraft in service with North American carriers. Coupled with the increasing dispatch reliability of that fleet, the ANA Customer Service team continues to sharpen its focus on rapid, first-rate service. We look forward to Tom’s guidance in further evolving the organization."
Anderson was most recently Senior Vice President - Technical Operations for Virgin America, where he led the restructuring and development of the airline's Technical Operations department. Previously, Anderson was with SkyWorks Capital LLC, following an eight-year career at JetBlue Airways, where he helped bring the airline from concept to first flight as a member of the Launch Team. While at JetBlue, he grew his responsibilities from Director of Aircraft Programs, to Vice President of Corporate Planning, to Vice President of Technical Operations, and ultimately Senior Vice President of the airline.
Anderson's career has always been aviation-focused, with his first three professional positions being a Helicopter Technician for Petroleum Helicopters, an Operations Analyst for Armstrong Aviation, and an eight-year stint with Boeing Commercial Airplanes in sales and marketing.
Anderson holds a BS from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a MS in Transportation from Northwestern University. His licenses include: FAA Airframe & Powerplant; FAA Inspection Authorization; and Commercial Glider Pilot.
With his new position at Airbus, Anderson will relocate to Northern Virginia with his wife, Lynn, and their six-year-old son Davis.
Airbus is an EADS company.
