Airbus Transport International's Beluga offers unique transport capabilities for the military airlift market, providing one of the largest main deck cargo compartments of any aircraft available today
With its cylindrical cargo cabin sized at 7.1 meters wide X 7.1 meters high X 39.1 meters long, the Beluga can carry two large helicopters with little or no strip-down/disassembly required.

This capability has been demonstrated numerous times, including the airlift of two new production NH90 helicopters from Marseille, France to Berlin in Germany, the transport of two operational United Nations CH-53s from Larnaka in Cyprus to Frankfurt, Germany, and the shipment of an EH-101 from Milan, Italy to Fairbanks, Alaska.

In a world where the rapid deployment of military helicopters has become an operational norm, the Beluga provides significant savings in transport time.

On a typical mission, two Chinooks can be loaded aboard the Super Transporter, transported to their destination and unloaded in a single day. For other transport aircraft such as the C-17, this stretches to nine days due to the reassembly required for the helicopters that had to be stripped down in order to fit inside the cargo compartment.

Even the Apache helicopter fits inside the Beluga with its mast-mounted Longbow millimeter-wave radar installed.

With a payload of two Chinooks (including a transportation jig), the A300-600ST has non-stop range of 2,100 naut. mi. For a payload of two Apaches and the transportation jig, the non-stop mission range is 3,050 nautical miles.
