Airbus continued its sustained business pace in 2010 by providing 37 jetliners to global customers during August while selling 15 new aircraft in the month – surpassing its order and delivery pace of last year.
As of August 31, a total of 335 aircraft had been delivered by Airbus in 2010, compared to 330 during the same period in 2009; while the total gross order intake during the first eight months of 2010 reached 301, which is more than double the 147 bookings logged last year from January through the end of August.
Two other notable achievements were Airbus’ delivery of three A380s in August – the most delivered during a single month; and the total of 13 A380s provided to customers so far in 2010, which is the most delivered by the company in a single year.
Last month’s orders were paced by Thai Airways International’s finalisation of a purchase agreement for the firm order of seven A330-300s, confirming a commitment announced at the 2010 Farnborough Air Show in July. Also included in the August order book was the acquisition of four A330-200s by CIT Leasing.
The popularity of Airbus’ corporate jetliner product line – which is based on its A320 Family aircraft – was underscored by the August order bookings for four A319 ACJs from four different customers.
Delivery highlights during August included Airbus’ handover of the three A380s, which were received by Air France, Emirates and Lufthansa. Also notable during the month was the very first A330-200F freighter delivery, received by Etihad Airways, along with the initial A330-300 provided for EGYPTAIR.
With its delivery performance during the first eight months of this year, Airbus is well on track to provide 500 aircraft in 2010.
