Total gross orders for Airbus jetliners in 2008 reached 470 at the end of May with the month’s bookings for 22 single-aisle and 16 widebody aircraft, while deliveries for the year surpassed the 200 mark with the 39 aircraft received by customers in May.
New business during the month included Air France’s order for 12 A320s and 6 A321s, adding to the major Airbus fleet of this carrier – which was a launch customer for the best-selling single-aisle A320 aircraft family. Other single-aisle aircraft orders came from a private customer for two A318s, along with two A320s for British Airways.
Widebody aircraft orders in May were paced by the 14 A330-200s booked by EADS’ Military Transport Aircraft Division for outfitting as multi-role aerial refuelling /transport aircraft for the U.K. Royal Air Force. In addition Germany’s Lufthansa ordered two A330-300s.
Deliveries during May included all four members of the A320 Family. One A318 was received by LAN Airlines, while the month’s six A319s went to CIT Leasing (for Avianca), Boutsen Aviation, Hamburg International, easyJet, Germanwings and a private customer. The month’s 19 A320s were delivered to AirAsia, RBS Aerospace (for Asiana Airlines), China Eastern Airlines, CIT Leasing (for Cebu Pacific and Armavia), JetBlue Airways, GECAS (for Virgin America, Juneyao Airlines and Air Berlin), ILFC (for Air Astana, S7 Airlines, Jetstar Airways, Shenzhen Airlines and Vueling) and IndiGo. A total of seven A321s were provided in May to NIKI, bmi, China Southern Airlines, Air China, ILFC (for Royal Jordanian Airlines and Aegean Airlines) and Turkish Airlines.
Customers receiving widebody A330 jetliners in May were ILFC (an A330-300 for China Airlines), Lufthansa (an A330-300) and JetAirways (an A330-200). In addition, EADS’ Military Transport Aircraft Division was supplied an A330-200, which will be configured in the multi-role aerial tanker/transport role for the Royal Australian Air Force. For the A340 family, Finnair received an A340-300, while Lufthansa added an A340-600 to its large Airbus jetliner fleet. |
