Justine, intern in the human resources department at Airbus Central Entity, Toulouse

Justine, who is studying international business with French at Sheffield Hallam University in the UK, was keen to take up a placement with a large international company, to experience how it worked from the inside. And her time at Airbus has provided her with exactly that, as she explains.

“I am working in temporary staff administration for human resources which involves short-listing potential candidates, organising and conducting interviews,” she said. “And I also take charge of managing the day-to-day administration of staff during their time with the company.

“I was a bit nervous about joining the team here, but everyone has been so friendly and helpful - it is a great working environment and we have a lot of fun. I have much more responsibility than I expected, I feel valued and am encouraged to develop new skills.

“I really enjoy dealing with lots of different types of people across the company. I am getting a real feel for international working too, along with the chance to use my language skills.”

Mike, intern with the core engineering team at Airbus UK, Filton

“I am currently studying for a degree in aeronautical systems engineering at the University of the West of England, so my year’s placement at Airbus is an ideal way for me to gain hands-on experience for my future career.”

“I am working in the aerodynamics department, using computational fluid dynamics – a type of computer modelling - to predict the aerodynamic performance of an aircraft’s wings. My job involves exploring possible improvements for A320 single-aisle family aircraft and future aircraft designs. This gives me a great sense of achievement as I am learning and performing tasks that have genuine importance for the company.”

“My placement has broadened my horizons on the world of work and it is great to be working in partnership with engineers across Europe. It has also made me realise that aerodynamics is the field that I want to work in after I graduate.”
