The Airbus Corporate Jetliner family’s spacious, modern flight deck has been designed by pilots for pilots.
Its fly-by-wire controls, which are operated via ergonomic side-stick controllers, allow unrestricted input throughout the flight envelope – protecting against overspeeding, stalling and windshear, while keeping the ACJ well within its structural limits. And with twice as much flight deck volume as typically-sized business jets, the ACJ is designed for maximum pilot productivity.
Six identical and interchangeable electronic flight instruments display all of the desired flight, navigation, systems and engine information, operating in concert with the aircraft’s fully integrated, third-generation avionics. Like all Airbus aircraft, the ACJ has the ability to make Category 3B automatic landings in the poorest visibility (75 metre runway visual range, with no decision height), helping to ensure that its passengers arrive at their destination – even in bad weather.
Airbus utilises the same cockpit on all of its A320 Family aircraft – the A318, A319, A320 and A321 – which shares a high degree of commonality with the fleet of A330 and A340 widebodies in service today (and soon, the A380). Only one pilot type rating is required to fly the ACJ and any other member of the A320 family, while transitioning to the A330 and A340 requires only minimal additional training through Airbus’ cross-crew qualification concept. This provides a pool of thousands of pilots who are qualified on Airbus fly-by-wire aircraft around the world and are ready to command the ACJ.
The ACJ Family’s flight deck continues to evolve with advances in technology, including the introduction of liquid crystal displays for its primary flight instruments, the availability of an electronic flight bag to facilitate crew efficiency, and the option to install a digital head-up display certificated for Category 3B landings.
