A320 Commonality
The A320 Family benefits fully from the features of Airbus commonality that airlines have come to count on for maximum operational flexibility, optimal economic efficiency and the best use of flight, cabin and maintenance crews.

Pilots can fly the A318, A319, A320 and A321 with a single type rating thanks to their identical cockpits and operating procedures. This means that an A320 Family-qualified pilot can step into any of the four aircraft at any time – allowing airlines with multiple Family versions to schedule the aircraft best matched to passenger bookings of a specific route on any day, having a full choice of seating capacities from 107 to 221 passengers.

In addition, A320 Family pilots have the Airbus fly-by-wire qualification that allows an easy transition to the larger A330, A340 and A380 aircraft through straightforward and rapid differential training rather than a completely new type rating. The advantages of Airbus commonality also apply to crews that staff the A320 Family passenger cabins.

As all A320 Family aircraft are equipped with the same state-of-the-art digital cabin management system, cabin personnel are able to switch seamlessly between the four aircraft types, facilitating scheduling and getting the best out of employees' skills. Aircraft maintenance also is made easy with A320 Family commonality as the result of the high inter-changeability of systems and parts, the common flight control system and similar avionics.
A320 Spotlight
...training: The Same Type Rating enjoyed by members of the A320 Family means a flight crew can fly any of four models with a single licence endorsement leading to a gain in training and stand-by time for operators. In addition a pilot’s transition from the A320 Family aircraft to another fly-by-wire Airbus aircraft requires only one to eight days differences training as opposed to the 25-35 day full type training course.
