| Advantages of commonality |
More than 20,000 pilots around the world are currently certified to fly the Airbus family of aircraft. Commonality enables these pilots to transfer with the minimum amount of retraining from one Airbus aircraft type to another with Cross Crew Qualification. Or, in the case of the A320 Family, where all four members have the same type rating, without any additional training at all. It also enables pilots to be qualified on two Airbus aircraft types simultaneously in the context of Mixed Fleet Flying.
These characteristics, unique to the Airbus aircraft family, make pilots more productive and more versatile for their current employers as well as for their prospective employers. This gives pilots the opportunity to fly a greater variety of routes from short-haul to long range, with less stand-by time, and a greater range of employment opportunities. |
