Günter Butschek

Günter Butschek was appointed Airbus Chief Operating Officer on 1st June 2012. In this role, he holds the overall responsibility for Operations, Engineering, Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Quality and Information Technology.
Günter Butschek joined Airbus in March 2011 as Head of Operations and member of the Airbus Executive Committee. Being in charge of Airbus’ worldwide operations activities he brought valuable experience in restructuring large business processes and in turnaround programmes. He also became Chairman of the Board of Management of Airbus in Germany (Airbus Operations GmbH) and keeps these responsibilities under his new COO leadership.
Günter Butschek began his professional career in 1984 at Mercedes-Benz AG in Stuttgart, Germany, as Project Engineer Central Material Management.
After several positions in logistics, human resources and procurement in the Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars division, Günter Butschek became a member of the management board of DaimlerChrysler South Africa (DCSA) in 2000 responsible for manufacturing.
In 2002 Günter Butschek moved to the Netherlands as President and CEO of Netherlands Car B.V., a contract manufacturer within the global manufacturing network of DaimlerChrysler and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. Focusing on the introduction of lean manufacturing principles, he achieved a drastic improvement in the plant productivity, quality and delivery performance.
From 2005 Günter Butschek was President and CEO of Beijing Benz Automotive Co., Ltd, in China. Leading the joint venture, he relocated the operations to an all new state-of-the-art facility and he has set the footprint for sustainable profitable growth.
Günter Butschek was born in 1960 in Stuttgart, Germany. He graduated in Economics from the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University.
Married with two children, he enjoys running, cycling and skiing.
