27 March 2012 Feature story

Airbus’ 21st century flagship A380 is generating a significant “buzz” in Latin America as this widebody jetliner continues its multi-city demonstration tour through the dynamic market.

During the tour’s first two stops – Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil – the aircraft was greeted by enthusiastic fans, anxious to see the double-deck aircraft first-hand. This excitement was reflected online, as the A380 quickly became a trending web topic across the nation.

After the tour’s opening, Brazil became the country with the second highest level of social media discussion on Airbus worldwide – representing a significant increase over pre-tour figures earlier in the month.

This A380 tour “buzz” is taking many forms, be it photography from the tour stops, cell phone videos of the A380, message board conversations and more. Much of the fan-driven A380 content has been spotlighted with “retweets” via Airbus’ official Twitter feed: www.twitter.com/airbus.

In addition, Airbus has launched its official Facebook fan page –www.facebook.com/airbus – providing another online location where fans can discuss the tour, as well as the company’s broad range of additional activities.

The high-profile Latin American tour is continuing in Santiago de Chile, where the A380 is participating in flying demonstrations at the region’s largest air show – FIDAE (Feria Internacional del Aire y del Espacio) – joining Airbus Military’s A400M at this event.

After FIDAE’s conclusion, the A380’s Latin America tour is to continue with its stopover in Buenos Aires, Argentina on 30 March; while the A400M will visit La Paz, Bolivia for high-altitude flight testing.
