The A380 - Why Heathrow says the super-jumbo's good for the airport business
11 July 2014

Heathrow Airport is the world's busiest international airport with 72 million passengers a year. With a landing or take-off every 45 seconds, the airport is close to full capacity. The airbus A380 frees up slots at the airport by bringing more tourists and business travelers in and out of the airport in one aircraft. The higher number of passengers also generates extra revenue for the airport thanks to purchases in the airport shops and restaurants

Innovation at Airbus: 3D printing
12 June 2014

Airbus is exploring applications of additive layer manufacturing – or 3D printing – in its jetliner product line to take advantage of this innovative production method which results in parts that are 30-55 per cent lighter, with shorter lead times, fewer materials used during production and a significant reduction in the manufacturing process’ environmental footprint.

Airbus 3D Printing technology transformation underway
11 June 2014

Airbus is at the start of an innovation revolution using 3D printing technology. 3D plastic parts are already flying on a commercial A310 and an A350 XWB test aircraft. Metal parts for wing slats, a section of the tail wing and door hinges have also been made with 3D printing. In the coming years the technology will allow manufacturing costs to fall while lighter parts will mean less fuel burn for airlines.

Innovation at Airbus: Making airport buildings “stealthy”
10 June 2014

The Airbus Group’s innovative “stealthy” building panel technology opens up new area for construction near airport runways by significantly reducing interference with safety-critical signals from instrument landing systems (ILS). First applied on Airbus’ C65 hangar in Toulouse in its 70-centimetre-wide thick-panel form in 2013, the technology’s thin-panel version – which is 8 centimetres in depth – also has been validated. The stealthy building panels’ development results from a collaborative effort between Airbus and Airbus Group Innovations – the corporate-level research and technology network of its Airbus Group parent company.
