Congestion
Meeting the needs of tomorrow
With the global population expected to nearly double by the year 2050, Airbus foresees a corresponding dramatic increase in passenger traffic volume – resulting in roughly nine billion people utilising flight services by that time.
High capacity to limit congestion
As the world’s largest and most efficient jetliner, Airbus’ A380 represents an ideal solution to achieving profitable, sustainable growth over the coming years – alleviating traffic congestion at busy airports by transporting more passengers per flight, and at much lower costs.
Widebody capacity

The A380 has the capacity to carry over 40 per cent more passengers than its nearest competitor, and as a result, makes better use of a major airport’s most valuable and scarce assets: take-off and landing slots.
The double-deck Airbus jetliner is an environmental-friendly and economical solution for growth on major routes, and will help accommodate the traffic demands of today and tomorrow – without continuously increasing the number of flights.

- The 4400m2 surface of the A380 is covered in three layers of paint weighing around 500kg.
- During take-off the A380 wing will flex upwards by over 4m.
The air in the A380 cabin is changed every 3 minutes and the temperature can be selected between 18 and 30 degrees.
In the first 3 years of service, around 15 million passengers have flown the A380.
An A380 takes off or lands every 10 minutes.
